Systematiikka ja levinneisyys
Agathidinae Haliday, 1833 on kohtalaisen suuri vainopistiäisalaheimo, mutta lajisto on suhteellisen köyhää lauhkeilla alueilla. Lajeja oli kuvattu 2005 noin tuhat, mutta arvoiden mukaan useita tuhansia lajeja on vielä kuvaamatta (Sharkey & Chapman 2017). Alaheimoon kuuluu seitsemän sukukuntaa (Taulukko 1).

Biologia
Alaheimon lajit ovat kasvien sisällä, miinoissa tms. elävien perhostoukkien koinobiontteja loisia, Brittiläisten tietojen mukaan isäntinä toimivat ainakin Gelechiidae, Coleophoridae,Torticidae, Oecophotidae, Noctuidae, Pyralidae, Sesiidae, Tineidae ja Blastobasidae (Shaw & Huddleston 1991, Cetin & Beyarslan 2001). Kolme toukkavaiheitta,.joista viimeinen poistuu isännästä isäntätoukan kudottua kotelokopan ja loistoukka viimeistelee isäntätoukan syönnin ulkopuolelta (Shaw & Huddleston 1991).
